Diaper Reliefs goal is to help individuals, children and families access the necessities they to thrive and reach their full potential. We are creating a solution to a problem many of our low-income family’s face. Currently Expecting Relief provides a Diaper Relief Pantry at DLC Kids Family Group Day Care and are in the works of solidifying a Diaper Pantry at SCO Family Residence in Bushwick where we have provided many services for residents and HealthCare Choices INC Pediatric Dept in ENY who we partner with for many community events.

Diapers are a necessity for every infant, yet diapers are not allowable expenses for SNAP or WIC. The majority of early childcare programs require an adequate supply of diapers for child attendance, but do not provide diapers to families in need. Families unable to afford an adequate supply of diapers may provide less frequent diaper changes to their child in an attempt to maximize their supply of diapers. Not having diapers means parents cannot leave their children with a childcare provider, so parents cannot go to work to earn money. Not having diapers means a longer time between changes, which can lead to severe diaper rash and other health problems. Not having diapers means that babies who cry because their diaper is dirty will cry that much longer, increasing stress for parents struggling to make ends meet. And not having diapers can adversely affect a mother’s feeling of self-worth, negatively impacting the mother-child bond.
